Biographical Note
Henry Fried Meyer was born on September 20, 1912 in Selma, Alabama. He died on January 24, 2000 in Starkville, Mississippi. Meyer graduated valedictorian from Selma High School in 1929. He then attended the University of Alabama, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1932 with a Bachelor's in Journalism and English. He also did post-graduate work in English at the University of Alabama in 1933. Henry moved to Starkville, MS in 1933 and worked for his family's business, Blumenfeld and Fried Wholesale grocery. He bought Starkville Publishing Co., which published the Starkville News and became editor and co-owner from 1946 to 1960. He sold the company and paper in 1965 and then became a journalism professor at Mississippi State University for 10 years. During his time at Mississippi State University, he also published their campus newspaper, The Reflector, which he also advised for 29 years. Other publications he oversaw were Starkville High School's, the Alumnus, and the news magazine for the Mississippi State Alumni Association. Henry Meyer was married to wife, Mildred, for 62.5 years. They had two children, Marjorie and Melvin. Henry was involved in many organizations, including Mississippi State University sports, Mississippi State University Student Publications Board, The Blackfriars theatrical group, Starkville Public Library, B’nai Israel congregation, and many others. Meyer was the recipient of many awards, one of the most significant being an induction into the Mississippi Press Association Hall of Fame in 1991.

Preservation Note
Photocopies of newspaper clippingds were made onto acid-free paper. The orginal clippicing were discarded. Files containing whole newspapers were interleaved with acid-free paper. All metal fastners and staples were removed and replaced with plastic clips. Photos were interleaved with acid-free paper.
