Scope and Contents
This series contains various records relating to the enslaved persons of the Oaks Plantation. Inside, one may find letters related to the purchasing of enslaved persons, as well as a letter to William M. Duncan regarding the imprisonment of Charles, an enslaved man held by the Duncan family. A bulk of this series contains bills of sale for enslaved persons bought by Nicholas Blackwell, William M. Duncan, and Andrew J. Duncan. Estate records featuring the names and assumed monetary value of enslaved persons is also included. Other miscellaneous materials are featured, which include receipts for goods and services bought for enslaved persons (e.g., shoes and dental care).
