John A. Rawlins papers
Scope and Content
The John A. Rawlins papers contains correspondence from Rawlins to his wife in the first year of the American Civil War. It also contains correspondence between Rawlins and his second wife, incoming correspondence and invitations in his capacity of Secretary of War, condolence correspondence following Rawlins's death, and additional family correspondence. The papers also include a clerk copy of a letter from Rawlins to US Grant, at Vcksburg, concerning Grant's drinking. Finally, the collection contains photographs, publications, and uniform regalia that belonged to Rawlins and his family.
