Scope and Content The John A. Rawlins papers contains correspondence from Rawlins to his wife in the first year of the American Civil War. It also contains correspondence between Rawlins and his second wife, incoming correspondence and invitations in his capacity of Secretary of War, condolence correspondence following Rawlins's death, and additional family correspondence.
