Fred and Ida Grant General Correspondence
Scope and Contents
Correspondence from 1887 and 1889, as well as miscellaneous 20th century correspondence, in this box was removed from the Frederick D. Grant Austria Hungary Minister Congratulatory Scrapbook. Though the Scrapbook ostensibily contains and is meant for congratulatory letters and letters regarding FDG's appointment as Minister to Vienna, the scrapbook also contains correspondence related to his failed attempt to be elected Secretary of State of New York in 1887. Loose sorrespondence related to both matters from 1887 and 1889 that nolonger adhered to the pages of the scrapbook have been moved to this series. This series also contains correspondence previously housed in the US Grant and Family Correspondence Collection of the Ulysses S. Grant Presidnetial Library.
