The collections consists of papers from sixty years of genealogy research by James Dabbs. The papers include entries from the International Genealogical Index, pedigree charts, descendent charts, individual summaries, family historical narratives, correpsondence, wills. and miscellaneous documents such as deeds and obituaries.

Biographical Note
James Dalton Dabbs was born 15 March 1936 in Sheffield, Alabama. He was the son of Dalton N. Dabbs, born March 20, 1911, in Shannon, MS, and Anna Wylodean Vann, born February 20, 1919, in Winston County, Alabama. He married Carol S. Dabbs on December 7, 1963, in St. Louis, Missouri. Dabbs spent over 60 years researching his genealogy. He died on December 26, 2017, in Sheffield, Alabama.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
Carole S Dabbs, wife of James D Dabbs. James Dabbs's (1936-2017) 60 years of genealogical research culminated in two boxes of collected documents. These documents were donated over a period of time ranging from 1990 to 2021.
Accruals
No further accruals are expected.
Preservation Note
Metal fasteners were removed from papers. There were entries taped to each document that corresponded to the table of contents given. The tape was taken off and the entires were photocopied on seperate sheets of paper. The orginal pieces of paper were discarded with the photocopied papers being included in each file. Documents contained in binders were removed and divded equally into folders.
Processing Note
Carole Dabbs, James's wife, had grouped together much of the material before donation. She created a table of contents for the sperate files within the groups. Most of these files were contained in plastic page protectors. Each file aslo had a slip of paper with its table of contents designation. All filed were taken out of the plastic protectors and put in individual file folders. The small labels were photcopied and added to the file, with the orginal discarded.
