Hayden Reynolds Collection
Content Description
This collection includes over 400+ pieces of sheet music reflecting Hayden Reynolds’s tastes as both a consumer and producer of music. Encompassing a wide array of genres (classical, Tin Pan Alley, blues, jazz, and gospel), as well as Reynolds’s own original compositions, the collection extends chronologically from 1893 to 1963. It subsequently provides a cross-section of developments in the publishing of popular music and innovations in the production and commercialization of said music.

Biographical
Hayden Hamilton Reynolds was a native and longtime resident of Starkville, Mississippi. Reynolds was the owner of Reynolds Insurance and Real Estate Agency, former vice president of the Starkville Chamber of Commerce, and mayor of Starkville from 1957 – 1961. Deeply committed to his country and community, Reynolds was an active member of the local Abert Masonic Lodge, Rotary Club, deacon at Starkville’s First Presbyterian Church, as well as a World War II veteran and American Legion member. The creation of this collection spans the majority of Reynolds’s adult life and includes pieces from his early career as a professional musician and songwriter.

This collection originally started off as 1 cubic foot. It became 2 cubic feet after full processing. 2 additional cubic feet were later added to the collection by the donor Also, the collection had several (less than 10) pieces moldy pieces removed. Item were refoldered.
