Glover Hayden Papers
Content Description
The Glover Hayden Papers (June 1, 1972 – April 1973) consist primarily of letters written by Glover to his parents and other family members. The letters were written during his tour in the U.S. Navy, beginning with “Boot Camp” at Great Lakes, Illinois and continuing with duty on the minesweeper USS Enhance. The letters end with his reporting to Mayport, Florida for duty. During his naval career, Glover traveled to Illinois, California, Hawaii, the coastal waters of North Vietnam, The Philippine Islands, and Florida. The collection contains 52 letters, one postcard, one newspaper clipping, two photographs, two envelopes, one map, two notes, and one biographical entry. The total number of items is 62.

Biographical Note
Glover Hayden is the son of Dr. J.J. Hayden, president of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. A native of Pass Christian, MS, Hayden was number 2 in the draft lottery, after his cousin John Hayden, who was number 1.
