Biographical / Historical

The East Mississippi Street Rod Association was founded in 1985. Its founding members include, Allen McBroom (Sec/Treasurer), Lynn Cook Jr. (President), Lee Anthony, Jim Beattie, Rick Boggan, Dee Dee Cook, Richard Gaston (Vice-President), Jim Hamer, Lynn McBroom, Gene Palmer (Board Member), Ann Palmer, Gin Tibbett (Correspondent), and Jimmy Tibbett. The club held an annual car show, The Good Times Rod Run, for ten years and participated in other car shows and events. The Rod Run was their central project each year, but they held regular meetings in various towns where their members lived. They donated and sponsored charities that helped needy children with health problems. They helped charities like the Palmer Home, Oktibbeha County Hospital, and the Hudson Rodeo. The club had a monthly newsletter, The Rod Runner, distributed to their members, which was started by Lynn McBroom and edited by Richard Gaston. This is a summary of the short history until 1991 that can be found in Folder 10 of Box 1 in the club yearbook.

Conservation and Preservation

Photographs have been placed between acid-free paper. Newspaper clippings have been copied onto acid-free paper, and newspaper clipping originals have been stored between acid-free paper. Staples and metal hardware have been removed and replaced with Plastiklips. Artifacts (jackets) have been wrapped in tissue paper and placed in document boxes (NOTE* jackets need to be moved to oversized boxes when they are available). The two framed photos were de-framed for preservation purposes. Color photographs of original framing were placed in the control file for reference. The aerial view photograph could not be separated from the frame’s glass; acid-free interleaving paper was placed between the loose portions of the photograph and the glass and was placed in flat, oversized storage.
