Historical Note

Photograph album contains images of a Mississippi family dating from approximately 1890 to 1930; dates were inferred based on clothing style and subjects of photograpgs, such as horse-drawn wagons and early model cars. Locations photographed include Mississippi Agricultural and Mechanical College, now Mississippi State University; Starkville; Meridian; Macon, MS; Linn Park in Birmingham, AL, and other locations in Mississippi and possibly Alabama. The bulk of the photographs document the life of the family, while some document agricultural activities, including forestry. A few photographs depict African American workers peforming laundry and childcare tasks.
