Papers documenting the military career of William Edward Brougher, spanning from 1906 to 1945. Including manuscript diaries, typed transcriptions of the diaries, mail, and poetry from Brougher’s time as a P.O.W. in the Philippines (1941-45).

Biographical / Historical
William Edward Brougher, son of Charles Brougher and Jessie Manship, was born in Jackson, MS, in 1895. He attended Mississippi Agricultural and Mechanical College (now Mississippi State) and graduated with a BS in 1910. In 1911 he joined the U.S. Army, and served in both World War I and World War II. In World War I he was assigned to first to the 174th Infantry Brigade and then the 79th Infantry division; by the end of the war he had achieved the rank of major. In World War II, as a lieutenent colonel, he was assigned to the 57th Infantry Regiment in the Philippines.
