Biographical Note

Jesse Roderick Sparkman was born on 19 Jun 1841 in Cooksville, Noxubee County, Mississippi to Lewis and Elizabeth Daniel Sparkman. He married Sallie Belle Denton Sparkman (1850-1882) of Alabama, and together the couple had three children: James Edwin Sparkman (1871–1944), Jesse Roderick Sparkman (1873–1947), and Florence Sparkman Holladay (1875 – unknown). Sparkman was a member of the Jeff Davis Legion, Company C, Mississippi Cavalry (Southern Guards) during the American Civil War. Sparkman died on 2 August 1875 in Cooksville. He is buried at the Cooksville Cemetery.
