Biographical Note

James Perry Drake was born on August 4, 1847, to Benjamin Michael Drake and Susannah Priscilla Hawkins Magruder in Jefferson, Mississippi. He died on January 19, 1902 in Summit, Mississippi. Clara Bell Wailes was born on February 5, 1850, to Edmund Howard Wailes and Jane Bell Newell in Woodville, Mississippi. She died on January 12, 1927 in Natchez, Mississippi. The pair was married on September 23, 1873. During their lifetime together, they had nine children: Winbourn Magruder (1874), Janie Howard (1875-1963), Elijah Steel Drake (1877-1959), James Perry (1879-1945), Susannah Priscilla (1881-1882), Benjamin Howard (1883-1892), Claribel (1185-1968), Alice Covinton (1887), and William Lambuth (1894-1918).
