Biographical Note
Thomas Newton Beaty was born on October 23, 1826, in Okolona, Mississippi, to David and Malinda Bratton Beaty. He married Margaret Elizabeth Beaty. Beaty enlisted in the Confederate Army at the rank of private on March 5, 1862. He belonged to the the 31st North Carolina Infantry Regiment, Company C. His service ended on April 9, 1865. Beaty died on October 17, 1867 in Houston, Mississippi and is buried in Friendship Presbyterian Cemetery.

This collection was donated to Mississippi State University Libaries on October 11, 2022, by Lamar Beaty, a descendant of the author of the letters.

Preservation Note
Materials are laminated, which cannot be reversed without extensive conservation work. The materials have been placed in an acid-free folder in an acid-free enclosure.
