Castles-Stiles Family Papers
Scope and Content
Correspondence, photographs, memorabilia, and other materials concerning the Castles and Stiles families of Oktibbeha County, Mississippi. Includes papers of entomologist Charles Francis Stiles (1891-1974), 1911 MSU graduate and his first wife Lottie Altizer Stiles, who resided in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Collection also includes a few items of his second wife Gladys Smith, an extension agent. C. F. Stiles papers bulk with letters and cards from friends, family members and colleagues, concerning his career, his illness and recovery from tuberculosis, and personal and family matters. Letters, diary, photographs and other materials document Charles D. Castles (1920-1949), MSU student and Marine Corps 2nd Lieutenant at his death. Other materials include letters of other family members, Bibles, photographs, publications, a genealogical notebook concerning the Stiles, McGee, Lawrence, Edmonds and Carpenter families, and other materials. Some materials relate to the Stiles family home, a historic home near Sessums in Oktibbeha County, now called The Pillars.
