Biographical Note

James Augustus Shingleur was born on 17 February 1839 to James Simon and Elizabeth A. Frederick Shingleur in South Carolina. During his life, he served as a Confederate soldier during the American Civil War. He was Assistant Adjutant and Inspector General to Samuel Gibbs French. He married Martha Elvira Flewellen Shingleur and fathered eight children, three whom did not survive infancy. Shingleur died on 7 March 1895 in Jackson, Mississippi.
