Historical Note
The Gulf Ordnance Plant was a military munitions plant during World War II from 1942-1945. It was located in Prarie Mississippi, and it was managed by Procter and Gamble. It spanned 6,720 acres and employed over ten thousand people. During its operation, it produced 20-, 40-, 57-, 67-, and 75-millimeter shells, rocket launchers, 100-pound bombs, and naval tracer ammunition. It was considered a major supplier of munitions during WWII, producing almost 25% of the munitions used by the United States armed forces.
