Scope and Contents
Ledger/journal of John Harkey Garmon (1825-1904), former merchant and resident of Palmetto (Pontotoc, later Lee County), Mississippi. Initial ledger entries are of purchases at store 1855-1858 with an index. Collection also includes genealogical and family history materials, 1846-1992. An addition includes materials concerning the military service of John Harkey Garmon, 2nd Lt., 1st (Johnston's) Mississippi Infantry, Company I: photocopies of military record and photographs of Garmon and display at Fort Donelson; "Plan of the Military prison situated on Johnson's Island in the Bay of Sandusky, Ohio, the place of confinement for Confederate State's Officers captured by the U.S. Army, 1862", drawn by Capt. J.T. Hogan, Topographical Engineer, C.S.A., Jeff Thompson's Division.
