Historical Note
The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection was founded about 1890, when services were led by Dr. W.H. Magruder on the campus of what was then Mississippi A&M.
The original church was designed about 1910 by A.D. Paine of Jackson, and built between 1910-1913. It was formally opened in 1913, on Mother's Day, with J. Lundy Sykes delivering the sermon. It was consecrated in 1916 by Bishop Bratton, though services were held irregularly until a minister was formally assigned in 1920. It formally became a parish in 1975.
Additioans to the building were designed by Thomas H. Johnston Jr. and Thomas Shelton Jones of Starkville in 1953, and Martin of Starkville in 1974. The Bell Tower was given as a memorial to the infantson of the Rev. and Mrs. Emile Joffrion, priest from 1951-54, and the the church school building was completed in 1974.
