Scope and Content

This series contains materials related to Patterson's professional life. Inclusive materials have been divided into 7 sub-series and include: A) schedules and datebooks (mostly from the 1980s); B) papers from her career at National Geographic Society including office memos and notes for some of her more notable articles/essays; C) organizational papers from professional socieites including the Society of American Travel Writers and the Society of Women Geographers; D) miscellaneous travel papers including schedules and field notes; E) miscellaneous writings and speeches (including a manuscript she wrote with her Louisana State University friends in the 1940s); D) miscellaneous letters; and G) research materials related to Patterson's Jewish Diaspora research project. Materials within each sub-series are arranged by perceived importance or research value, then by date in ascending order.

Conditions Governing Access

This collection is open for use by all researchers with exception to Folders 22 and 27 located in Box 1, which includes sensitive personal identifiable information.

Technical Access

This collection contains a significant amound of 35mm slides and negatives as well as cassette tapes and microcassette tapes. These materials have no been digitize, so access to these materials require the use of analog technology.
