Series 1 contains correspondence, including letters to and from M.A. Banks (1857-1872); letters from the Starr family (1860-1891); letters to Campbell Williams from Willie Hollingsworth (1879-1892), in Chicago, Illinois, with lengthy discussions of national politics; letters to Campbell Williams from his cousin, George H. Douglas (1880-1896), in Morgan City, Louisiana, mostly humorous in nature; letters to and school essays by Hattie Carmichael (1885-1894); letters from the Hill family in Punta Gorda, British Honduras (1889-1894); letters to Campbell Williams from his brother, Mims, attending Millsaps College (1891-1896), with references to a professor who left Ole Miss after being accused of homosexuality (1895); letters between Virginia Banks Williams, Mims Williams, and others regarding the will of Virginia’s cousin, Judge William Douglass, in Texas (1913-1914); and other assorted letters from friends and relatives.
