Scope and Content

The papers of Kenneth Drake Embry consist of genealogical records of the Embry family, partial maps of Oktibbeha County, various photographs, and a congressional record of the speech of John E. Rankin on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Inland Waterway. The content spans from1786-1954 with the bulk falling in the 1870s and 1950s.

Biographical Note

Kenneth Drake Embry was born October 10, 1877 In West Point, Mississippi. He started working in Memphis in 1895. He then began working for the Southern Pacific Railroad in April 1900 as a freight office clerk and was soon thereafter promoted to Purchase Clerk. He worked for five years in Memphis and was then transferred to Houston, Texas where he worked for forty-seven years. He died in Houston, Texas, December 9, 1954. He never married nor had any children. The Southern Pacific Railroad was founded in 1865 by San Francisco businessmen. The first line ran from San Francisco to Sand Diego and ran to New Orleans by 1883.
