Scope and Content

The World War II Correspondence Series of the G. V. "Sonny" Montgomery papers contains letters home from Congressman Montgomery to his mother and step-father from 1943 to 1946. It also includes Montgomery's military records and other military correspondence from 1947 to 1967. The correspondence is arranged chronologically and also contains copies of Orders, brochures and pamphlets, and other items he sent home. The series chronicles his service in the European Theater of the war, where Montgomery received a Bronze Star with Valor for capturing a German machine gun and where he assisted in the liberation of Concentration Camps.
