Scope and Content
The files of The Papers of Ulysses S. Grant contain copies of the writings of Ulysses S. Grant and all the materials that make up the annotations of Grant’s writings in the 32 volumes of The Papers of Ulysses S. Grant edited by Dr. John Y. Simon. Each entry contains a copy of the original letter, order, speech, note, or manuscript written by Ulysses S. Grant, a transcript of the document, additional copies of the document that exist, and copies of other manuscripts used in the preparation of the annotations in the 32 volumes. This includes newspaper articles, secondary sources, and any other materials that the editors used to create each entry in The Papers of Ulysses S. Grant. This collection also includes the “Calendar Entries” from each volume and additional documents referenced in the 32 volumes of The Papers of Ulysses S. Grant. These files are arranged chronological by the date of the Ulysses S. Grant document in the 32 volumes or by the date of the “Calendar Entries.”
