This collection consists of fourteen boxes of correspondence, ephemera, photographs, and scrapbooks related to Ulysses S. Grant, Julia Dent Grant, their acquaintances, and family members. It is arranged in five series: Correspondence and Ephemera; Photographs, Scrapbooks, oversized, and Addition I. The first two series have additional Sub-Series that break the material down into specific types which are then arranged either chronologically or alphabetically by topic. Series V: Addition I contains materials donated by Grant family members in 2025. These materials came through the family of USG and JDG's youngest son Jesse R. Grant (Jr.).

Note

Bound copies of General orders issued by Grant from 1862 to 1864. Includes both printed and hand-written copies of the GOs, some in USG's hand, other's in the hand of his aides-de-camp. This bound copy includes a hand-written copy of the infamous General Orders No. 11 (Identified as its actual number GO No. 12 in the volume) which Grant issued in December 1862 expelling all Jews from the Department of the Tennessee. The order was quickly rescinded by President Lincoln and General Henry Halleck.
