Bio/History Horace Hammerton Harned Jr. was born to Dr. and Mrs. H. H. Harned on July 27, 1920. H. H Harned was married to Nellie Jane Howell. Throughout his life he was a member of the Mississippi State Legislator, Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission (1960s), rotary, Freemasons, Kappa Sigma, American Legions, and Forty Eight Politician Club. He was an active segregationists during the Civil Rights and served in the Mississippi State House of Representatives (1960-1964 & 1966-?) and the Mississippi State Senate as a Democrat (1952- 1956.) He graduated from Mississippi State College in 1942 where he was a member of the track team, Vice President of Blue Key, and many more. Horace was a lieutenant in the Army Air Force. He was commissioned in November of 1942 at Lowry Field, Denver, Colorado. He served in Mexico, Africa, India, China, and South America.
