Series 3: Miscellaneous Legal Documents, 1768-1874

 Series

Scope and Contents

The bulk of this series of legal documents includes cases on which various nineteenth century figures worked, including John T. Stuart, Stephen T. Logan, and William H. Herndon. There are railroad cases, legal deeds, custody disputes, and other types of legal proceedings from 1768 to 1874. A majority of these documents provide insight to the legal environment of Lincoln's time, such as legal records from Sangamon County, Illinois. This collection would be most useful for legal scholars interested in the legal sphere in which Lincoln operated. This series is arranged alphabetically by document creator.
